Whilst doing sheet work such as my mood boards and visual sheet's i have also been concentrating on doing artist research in my sketchbook.
Firstly i focused on researching artists/designers that have produced circus/funfair themed work.
The first artist i research was Manish Arora. Here is the research i did in my sketchbook.
Focusing on the spring/summer 2009 'the circus dress' he created, worn by celebritys such as katy perry.
I then decided to look at a more historical artist who did work on circus's. I have always liked Marc Chagalls work after researching him back when i was at school. Here is a picture of my research.
The next designer i researched was Versace. As well as doing a circus themed print on their vintage shirt and trousers, after researching and looking in many Versace books i found a few dresses that looked like showgirl dresses. This fits in perfectly with my previous research. Here you can see my Versace research.
As you can see on the right in the picture above, the next designer i researched about was Alexander Mcqueen, The carousel dress he created is amazing and elegant and here you can see Qwen Stafani wearing it, it fits in with my research really well and i knew i had to include it in my research. Below is the next page of research i did on Alexander Mcqueen.
