Well hello, its been a while since I posted on here. Due to moving family homes and student homes its been like living in the old days with no internet... and I don't even have data on my phone!! Last time I was writing on my blog I was updating you all on my mind set on how excited I was to go straight into my final year of university. I knew it was for me, I was so relieved when I made the decision and so happy when my family, close friends and boyfriend told me they supported me all the way.
Since I can ever remember in my own head I have always wanted to have my own business, something started from scratch by my self and something I could build up and pass down when I'm no longer here. I know it is what I have always wanted to do, weather it be now or in 20 years time.
At university, the University of Huddersfield, they offer a option of setting up your own business or branding yourself which can be done instead of going out into industry in your placement year. This is called Enterprise Placement Year. I had heard about it but it never stuck out to me at the time as I was dead set on finishing university next year, but I never thought past graduating. It wasn't until I started thinking about graduation and what I would do afterwards when it kicked in that I wouldn't have anything to do but to get a 'normal' job as I would have no experience in industry. This made me panic a bit and I had to sit down with my tutors and come up with a list of possible options.
Since my outburst of winning designs at Orangebox which you can see in previous blog post's my tutor asked me to consider EPY (enterprise placement year) so I was set up to meet a lovely man called Phillip who answered all the questions I had about EPY.
I could not believe it, all this time I was up and down and going round' and round about what I wanted to do with the next year of my life, and all this time EPY was the answer (or at least I think it will be). It sounded perfect and he totally sold it to me, we discussed my business idea and if EPY was suited to me and it boosted my confidence so much. I just had to actually get in now.
I straight away got an application form and sent it off by this time I was so nervous as I had my heart set on it and I had heard there was only a couple of places left.
I was invited to an interview with the instructions to bring something to showcase my business idea...
Long story short, My interview went so well. Apart from being dead nervous and talking at 100000 mph, they liked me and more importantly they loved my business idea! I just had to wait (and constantly check my emails through my mums phone - no internet!!) for their decision.
I GOT IN, I GOT IN!!
From August I will be setting up my own business with the support and guidance from experts to help make it the best it can possibly be and I'm so excited. Its been a whirlwind of a journey but I am now on the right track for me.
I shall be setting up a business specialising in interior surface design for domestic and commercial spaces.
