Tree Texture | Textile Inspiration

In textile design, As in any other creative subject it can be so easy to get unmotivated due to lack of inspiration. This summer I have been thinking about texture's and how different people perceive them using different techniques. Texture is literally everywhere, Nature is the key when it come's to texture, Weather it is the rust on an old iron gate or the back of a leaf, It could be the wing of a dragonfly or the tiniest grains of sand, Each and every one has a different texture. Today's blog post is focusing on the texture of tree's and different ways to develop and inspire to create something using different techniques.

Tree bark's have so many patterns and depths to them, Many people call these expressions. You can easily get inspired just by walking around your local park or wood's. Different specialists can get inspired by trees and make so many amazing yet different out come's. For example, A fine artist might use different mark making tools and techniques to recreate the pattern of the tree/s or maybe use ink to delicately draw each and every line from the tree or you could just as easily use the ink and stick technique to give the out come a more sketchbook-y feel to it. Here are a few pictures using mark making tools and ink.

You can see the corrugated cardboard effect looks really like a palm tree bark.

Using mark making techniques and ink is two of my favourite thing's to do in my sketchbook's! I could go on forever naming different techniques and there out comes inspired by tree bark, Such as water colour, Painted, Using biro, Berol and water, Collage... and many more. But I want to show you how natural texture such as tree bark can inspire people in the textiles world...

Using textile techniques such as Knitting, weaving, fabric manipulation, sewing, felting.. and so on, You can create bark inspired masterpieces, The possibilities are endless.

Inspiration is all around you, You just have to properly look for it.
