Summer Project 2015 - Super Journal

The Brief

Another summer means another summer project, or 4 as this case might be. However the 'Super Journal' is the most exciting project for me this summer.

'As a creative practitioner it is vital that you develop your communication skills, this can be verbally but also visually. The relationship between communication and a strong practice is clear; both support and rely on the other.

Use the time over the summer break to develop your Super Journal, essentially it is an extension of your research journals but it will be developed to include a wider variety of information and reflection.

Use your journal to really push, question and develop your reflective skills Instead of putting an image in your journal and writing a brief reflection, extent your reflection to 5 or 10 pages. Include colour analysis, sketched, materials, include texts that may explore and develop similar ideas (or those in opposition). You may include information about the image that you are given/ know of but perhaps more importantly is your research; reflection on what you read into the work.

Some questions to consider (and regularly return to):

- Have I just fuck with one particular thing? Is this not an opportunity to explore new ideas?
- What am I learning/developing by doing this?
- What challenged am I setting myself within this journal?
- Am I challenging my mind as well as my automatic visual aesthetic?
- Aside from my usual ideas, is this generating some new thoughts?

What could be included?
- Drawings/ Sketches
- News clips/texts
- Colour analysis
- Postcards/Cuttings
- Trend forecasts
- Photographs
- Material Samples
- Exhibition Reviews
- Shop reports
- Art reviews
-Internet/Blog links
- Diagrams
- Notes
- Ideas that evolve

I also have to complete a task of reviewing 3 exhibition/shop reports and putting it in my super journal.

I will be completing this summer project in a sketchbook and will regularly updating my blog with my developments.
