What kind of archives can you find?
An archive is a collection of things, It is usually a large collection and will usually have some sort of numbering system but not always. An archive could be a collection of images pinned on boards on Pinterest, A collection of nail varnish, books, sketchbooks, old designs etc.
What kind of responses might you make to an archive and why?
As a printer and commercial designer specialist I think in industry that archives will be important in my practice, I might be looking at archives of old artwork/designs for a company to inspire my own work. For example I know Liberty London look back at their archive for inspiration which I think is fantastic because it keeps the heritage of the brand alive. As a textile designer I may also look at an archive of fabric to see which would be best suited for a certain technique, function or project.
As a practitioner what is your own archive of work?
I would describe my own archive of work to be my technical files, Designs that I have sampled with and wrote down every technical process done to that sample. Starting from college up to university I have kept every technical file I have completed as it shows my growing progress as a textile designer. I also think my sketchbooks could be classed as an archive as I have so many of them and they also show my development. Recently I went back home to collect my sketchbooks/technical file and artwork to inspire me for my next upcoming live brief project with standfast and barracks.
