In this review I shall include a few pictures of the exhibition and my person thoughts from just looking at the exhibition without having any background information.
As you can see from the photo above the exhibition is in response to different archives.
When I visited the exhibition I was quite overwhelmed with the abstract and randomness of it all, As it made no sense to me. In one corner there was a projector in another a tv playing a video. On the walls were photography and rocks painted with nail varnish, You just know from the instant you walk in that each sculpture has a story behind it, but what was it?
Above is a photo I took at the exhibition, It is a collection of nail varnishes presented with photographs of rocks behind them painted in that very colour. This made me think, The questions and thoughts in my head were around the fact that an archive is a collection of anything, mainly with some sort of sorting methodology. As a girl myself, I horde nail varnishes of all colours and I would know each one by its very random name in small letters on a sticker at the bottom of the glass bottle. This could be an archive in its self.
In conclusion to this exhibition, I found it really hard to relate to as I did not know the stories behind the sculptures. As a printer I found it hard to be inspired by this exhibition however I appreciate that other people in my class will be inspired by it. As I specialise in commercial design I also understand that each fashion house or big fashion company/organisation will have an archive of their designs from the past. Now knowing that I can take 'working from archives' into my own direction and focus on archives of textile design to inspire my work.
