Timorous Beasties is one of the very few companies who still use silk screen printing. I found this very interesting as it is the printing method that I have been taught throughout college and I feel I am skilled at. Using silk screens limits you to colours as each colour means a different silk screen, However the layered up look which makes it look more colourful and busy is what I like to do with my work and I seem to have been influenced by Timorous Beasties.

The pictures I have included in this blog post are just a few of my favourite designs from Timorous Beasties. The use of bright colours and textured like patterns and techniques such as watercolour and bleach. The bottom photo also shows the use of positive and negative space. Timorous Beasties is a inspiring company which influences a lot of creatives.

DESIGNER MAKER ARTIST | Movana Chen

Movana Chen is a designer - Maker who uses paper and knitting to create fashion based installations.

I found this artist when researching the materials and techniques which was picked out from my designer maker workshop task when I had to go into Huddersfield to ask certain strangers to help me with my work.

Movana Chen creates her work by using shredded paper which she glues the ends together to create a continuous ribbon, She then knits it together.

I really like Movana Chens way of working. Although it is time consuming, It is sustainable and I think recycling and constructing art and fashion out of everyday things which just gets wasted is a really amazing talent.

Final Major Project - Artist research So Far

To support my project I have done two artist/designer research sheets that reflect my project in some way or another. The first artist I researched is Klari Reis, She creates her work using a new media plastic, epoxy polymer, and the fine control she brings to its reactions with a constantly expanding variety of dyes and pigments. The UV resistant plastic, similar to resin, supplies a common framework for the methods and language she used to explore and express interactions of material and colour on a microscopic level. She pigments the plastic with powders, oils, acrylics and industrial dyes, built up through many layers of the super glossy plastic. The shapes and colours bleed, blur, shift and spread becoming remarkable through their eccentric detail. The outcomes of Klari Reis work really support's my project with it being science based, I am focusing my development on cells and bacterial petri dishes. I am really happy with this sheet as I got to do some painting on it and I think it looks really good. The only thing I do not like about this sheet is the white background as I usually fill up my backgrounds although I had to keep it simple to show off the petri dish paintings.

Next, I wanted to research into a designer or an artist to support my holographic mood board so for this I did a sheet on a menswear/unisex designer called Jade Clark, Her work is seriously amazing. Jade uses holographic colours in most of her work which supports my holographic moodboard, this has inspired me to defiantly take this idea into my designs and experiment around with it. Here is my research sheet on Jade Clark....
To get in contact with Jade Clark, visit her Facebook or Big cartel to purchase some of her lovely creations @ http://jadeclark.bigcartel.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/JADECLARKSBADMAN

In conclusion I am happy with my artist/designer research so far and I am feeling inspired from researching into both Klari Reis and Jade Clark.

Thankyou for reading.
