In todays future materials class, I created a circuit using textiles and it actually lit up a LED light!
First I got an A5 sheet of cotton and drew out the circuit in pen so I knew where everything was going to go.
I cut my LED lights up which I got from poundland and took the plastic off of the positive and negative ''legs' and put a battery between them to make sure it worked.
I then begun sewing from A to B using conductive thread, Leaving enough thread at the bottom to create a switch. I then made a loop in each leg of my LED and I sewed the positive leg side down, I then knotted my thread and cut it off. Loading up the thread on the needle again I started sewing the negative leg onto the cotton and carrying on the circuit from C to D.
I stopped sewing in the middle of where the battery is on the diagram I then sewed a pocket on for the battery to sit in, I used normal thread for this. Then using conductive thread again I carried on the circuit which meant sewing into the pocket. You can see in the picture below what I mean...
And that is the finished product, Although this task was a bit fiddly, I enjoyed doing it. Its only a very simple thing to do but its incredible how things like this are used so much in the world these days.
Thanks for reading.
